Tile is where a remodel is won or lost. Everything before it is hidden and everything after it is decoration. It is also the trade where the difference between competent and careless is visible from the doorway, forever.

A service almost nobody advertises

Matching tile you already have.

A cracked shower wall, a water-damaged floor, a partial remodel where the last contractor left. Most installers will tell you the whole room has to come up, because blending into existing tile is harder than starting fresh and it is easy to get wrong.

Often the room does not have to come up. If the original tile is still made, or there is a close enough match in size and finish, new can be blended into old so the repair does not announce itself.

On a Buckhead condo we demoed and rebuilt the entire wet area and tied the new tile into the existing floor. The room reads as one piece. That job was $24,000.

Questions

Can you match tile I already have?

Often, yes. If the original tile is still manufactured, or there is a close enough match in size and finish, we can blend new into old so the repair does not announce itself. On a Buckhead condo we rebuilt the entire wet area and tied it into the existing tile so the room reads as one piece. Bring us a spare tile or a photo of the box if you have one.

What is large format tile and why does it cost more?

Anything over about 15 inches on a side, up to two by four foot slabs. It costs more because the substrate has to be genuinely flat, the sheets are heavy enough to need suction handles and two people, and a single bad cut wastes an expensive piece.

What are the clips in your progress photos?

Leveling clips. They hold adjacent tiles flush while the mortar sets so there is no lippage, meaning no edge standing proud of its neighbour. They are slower and they add material cost, and they are the reason you cannot catch a toe on our floors.

Do you do floors only, or full rooms?

Both. Small tile floors start around $2,500. Water damage repairs where the old floor comes up and a new one goes down run from about $10,000 depending on the room.

What kind of tile do you work with?

Porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, glass mosaic, and large format porcelain slab. Hex, herringbone, basketweave, encaustic pattern, and running bond. If you can buy it, it can be set properly.
